For years, I’ve had the honor of working with many military families and Tricare beneficiaries. Supporting you during your breastfeeding journey has been one of the most meaningful aspects of my work. That’s why this update is especially difficult to share.

Due to ongoing complications and changes within Tricare’s system, I am no longer able to bill Tricare for lactation consultations.

This decision was not by choice. For over a year, I worked to resolve a billing issue caused by administrative errors outside my control. I was given conflicting information, delayed responses, and assurances that things would be resolved—only to later be told I must reapply entirely. After submitting the new application, I was ultimately denied a contract. The reason given? Tricare determined there was “no need” for my services in this area—despite the fact that I am the only IBCLC providing in-home and virtual lactation care locally.

What This Means for You

I am no longer able to bill Tricare directly for lactation services. However, I am still here for you.

  • You may choose to pay out of pocket and receive a superbill to attempt self-submission to Tricare.
  • Payment plans are available for those who need support.
  • You are welcome to contact me with questions about what to expect, pricing, or how to request reimbursement.

You’re Not Alone

If you’re frustrated, you’re not the only one. Many families are struggling with insurance changes that limit their access to care. I see it, and I understand. I’m committed to offering clear information and compassionate support as we navigate this together.

If you’re visiting my sight and have questions about coverage, please feel free to contact me directly. Be sure to check out my guide on how to request reimbursement from Tricare or other insurers.

Thank you for trusting me with your care. It continues to be a privilege to walk alongside you in this journey.

Warmly, Jessica, IBCLC, Lactating Essentials
