At Lactating Essentials, I provide services to help parents with all their breastfeeding and postpartum needs. Breastfeeding is natural, but not always easy. I hope to make this new chapter in your life as easy and stress free as possible.

I am an IBCLC, International board-certified lactation consultant. I am very passionate about helping others reach their breastfeeding goals because of the struggles I have faced with my own children. I have two little girls, and ever since I had my first, I became very interested in protecting their health the best I can. I love discussing the benefits of breastfeeding for babies and parents so feel free to ask me anything.

I’m Jessica Austin, IBCLC, and mom of two. I am passionate about breastfeeding and helping new parents reach their feeding goals and overcome the obstacles they may encounter during their journey. I would love to help you and your family.

I have many hours of education based specifically on lactation, as well experience with helping breastfeeding families, and four years of my personal breastfeeding journeys with my two children (which definitely did not come without its struggles).

After having another visit at the pediatrician, my baby was having slow weight gain & I wasn't getting the encouragement or answers I needed, so I reached out to Jessica & scheduled an in home visit.
Jessica is very thorough & listened to all my concerns.
Had I not decided to get a lactation consultant I probably would have been pushed to put my baby on formula when my milk supply was far from the issue.
Jessica suggested I feed baby more as she thought baby may have not been eating as many times a day as she should & that some babies are just better at telling you they're hungry & then, there are some babies who will just sleep a longer stretch without eating (My baby) so, if she doesn't wake up within 2 hours to wake baby & feed her every 2 hours.
Baby was sleeping longer stretches at night & I realized that letting her sleep those longer stretches were the cause of her slower weight gain. As soon as I started that, her weight gain went up faster. Such a simple fix that I wouldn't have known about if I didn't have Jessica come out to help!
Jessica is also very friendly & easy to talk to! You won't ever feel like you're bugging her with asking questions & she is very patient. She tries to do things in a way to make you feel comfortable but she will also give full transparency about everything.
She also has a very flexible payment plan if you cannot pay in full.
If you're looking for someone who really cares about their work, I would suggest Jessica. Sometimes there are lactation consultants that really don't help at all, leaving you discouraged, but after the visits I had with Jessica I had lots of hope that things would go well.

Jessica is great!! She was there for me and my baby when I had trouble latching and my baby was not gaining enough weight. Step by step Jessica helped me out and patiently worked with me as this was all new and a struggle for me. Jessica was wonderful and as patient as they come. She was instrumental in setting us up for success at the beginning of my breastfeeding journey and was there for every question and the challenges that came our way. She noticed a tongue tie that was missed by two pediatricians and had a referral to get it taken care of immediately.

I could not thank Jessica enough! Our journey began with trouble latching and poor weight gain and we started with online consults with another company that just weren’t cutting it. This company connected me to Jessica for an in home consult and she helped me to wean my baby off supplementation and to strictly breastfeeding with confidence! He’s now 3+ months and moving up the growth chart and I couldn’t be more grateful. Jessica is truly the best. I reached out to her as she was recommended to me by my doula. I sent her an email a couple weeks prior to the birth of my baby to let her know I was interested in working with her. Side note- she takes TriCare! Anyways, the day of my littles ones birth I contacted her to set up an in home appointment for when we returned to the hospital. Well not 2 days later my baby was taken to the NICU 1.5 hours away from my birthing hospital. I let Jessica know and she supported me via phone calls and text messages during the entire time we were in the NICU. When my LO and I came home she was able to see us fairly quickly for our in home appointment. She did a weighted feed, talked to me about latches, gave tips and just had some good conversations. Jessica is AMAZING!! So personable and friendly.. she is super helpful and gave me advice and recommendations without judgement or criticism.. She even calls and follows up after the appointment to make sure everything is going well..
